Howard R. Galaway

Howard Russ “H.R.” Galaway, age 88 of Fairmont, NE died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at York. He was born September 23, 1918 to William Henry and Grace Agnes (Smail) Galaway at rural McCool Junction, NE. On October 6, 1943 he was united in marriage to Norma E. Hillers at Maysville, KY.

H.R. was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp, then joined the C.S. Foreman Pipeline Crew, and finally settled with farming southeast of McCool. He was also the Archer Oil Dealer for over 40 years. He enjoyed metal work, especially fixing antiques.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Norma of Fairmont; three sons: Larry (Alice) Galaway of Geneva, NE; Don (Kathy) Galaway of York, and Alan (Linda) Galaway of McCool; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Joe (Nancy) Galaway of Fairmont and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him death were his parents and siblings: Bill, Bob, Clyde, Agnes, Nellie, and a infant brother.

Funeral services were held May 31, 2007 at Metz Chapel. Interment followed at the McCool Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
