Fred Friesen

Fred Friesen age 97 of North Newton, KS formerly a longtime resident of Henderson, NE died November 27, 2007 at Kidron Bethel Health Care Centre in North Newton, KS. He was born November 8, 1910 to Henry P. and Maria (Janzen) Friesen at Henderson, NE and graduated from Henderson High School in 1929. Fred operated a Standard Oil Delivery Truck and then farmed for 35 years near Henderson. He married Tena Janzen on November 26, 1939 in Henderson. She died in 1997. He was a current member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson before moving to North Newton in 2006.

Survivors include his daughter Winona Kaye Penner and her husband Virgil of North Newton, KS; his grandchildren include Sondra Otto and husband Tony of Tulsa, OK and Tom Penner and his wife Paige of Racine, WI. Four great grandchildren Jon Otto, Sarah Otto, Ryan Penner and Mara Penner; a sister Sophia Bergen of Sutton, NE and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Walter and Reuben Friesen, two sisters, Lucie Beier and Nellie Urban.

Graveside services were held Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Bethesda Cemetery near Henderson. Memorial services followed at at the Bethesda Mennonite Church with the Reverend Weldon Martens officiating. Memorials may be directed to Bethel College or to the Bethesda Church Radio Fund.
