Bertha (Epp) Friesen, of Henderson, NE, passed away early in the morning of August 27, 2010 at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 24 days. She was born on a farm south of Henderson on February 2, 1920 to Jacob C. and Helena (Dick) Epp. Bertha was the oldest of three children, having a brother Edwin and a sister Esther. She graduated from Country School District 31 in York County, and also from Henderson High School in 1938.
Upon her confession of faith in her Savior and Lord, she was baptized by Pastor A.W. Friesen and was accepted as a member into Bethesda Mennonite Church of Henderson in the spring of 1940, where she continued to be a faithful member. She taught Sunday School and Daily Vacation Bible School for many years. Her love for music gave her the opportunity to exercise her gift by playing piano for any number of choirs, small singing groups and congregational singing in the church.
Bertha married Elmer Friesen on September 19, 1941, and they were privileged to spend nearly 69 years together.
Left to cherish her memory is two sons, E. James (Joan) Friesen of Henderson, and Phil G. (Sherryl) Friesen of Henderson; one daughter Sherry (Keith) Lantz of Keyport, WA; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, and sister.
Graveside services were Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Bethesda Cemetery near Henderson followed by Memorial services at 10:30 a.m., at the Bethesda Mennonite Church, Henderson.
