Albert Friesen

Albert P. Friesen, age 94, of Henderson, NE, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Henderson. He was born on December 8, 1916 to John G. and Helena (Peters) Friesen on the family farm near Henderson. Albert went to school at District 95 in Henderson from first grade until halfway through the seventh grade. The family then moved to the farm west of Lushton, NE where Albert went to school at Darling District 20 for the remainder of the seventh grade just ¾ miles south of the farm. Albert went to high school in Lushton and graduated in the spring of 1935. In the fall of 1937 he went to Agricultural College in Lincoln and graduated in 1938. During the fall of 1938 and 1939, he picked corn in Coon Rapids, IA.

On February 18, 1940, Albert and Maleta M. Epp were married. This union was blessed with three daughters, Betty, Lila, and Madeline. Albert and Maleta farmed for 25 years and together enjoyed being outdoors and going on trips with family and friends.

Albert sold DeKalb seed corn for 14 years and was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. He served on numerous committees such as the School Board, Church Board, Mennonite Disaster Service Board, Mid Town Manor, A.S.C., Blue River ground water inspector, Senior Center, and the finance committee for the Bethesda Church sanctuary.

Maleta passed away in 1999 following nearly 60 years of marriage. In June of 2006, Albert moved to Rosewood Court in Henderson. There he made many friends and was given excellent care by the staff. On March 27, 2011, Albert fell asleep and went to be with the Lord. Although he will be deeply missed, his family and friends rejoice knowing that someday they will be with him.

Albert is survived by three daughters, Betty (Fred) Weisheit of Henderson, Lila (Maynard) Bender of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and Madeline (Lyle) Hight) of Davenport, NE; ten grandchildren; 21 + one expected great-grandchildren; and two great great-granddaughters. Also surviving is one brother, Daniel P. (Esther) Friesen of Henderson; one brother-in-law, Wendell Epp of Oelwein, IA; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Frank) Huebert of Enid, OK and Estelean Quiring of Henderson. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, sister-in-law Marie Epp, and brother-in-law, Pete Quiring.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Reverend Jim Voth officiating. Interment followed in the Bethesda Cemetery.
