Donald Fellows

Donald W. Fellows, age 77 of Waco, died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at York. He was born at Stromsburg, NE on August 30, 1928 to Raymond L. and Ellen M. (Larson) Fellows. He attended grade school at Blue Valley District #35 and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1945. He was confirmed in 1942 in the Evangelical Free Church at Stromsburg. He married Joyce Leach on December 29, 1951 at Stromsburg and they had four children.

Don farmed until he was drafted into the Army in 1951. He served in the 15th Anti-aircraft Battery in Korea from 1952-1953. After serving in the Army he farmed until October 1957. He worked at the Farmers Coop Grain Ass’n until May 1959. The family moved to Waco where Don managed the Waco Farmers Coop Grain Co. until January 1966. He then went to work for Cooperative Service Company as an insurance representative and grain auditor and the family moved to Lexington, NE in May 1966. In may of 1976 they moved back to Waco where he retired in August of 1992 after 27 years with Cooperative Service Company.

Don enjoys RV traveling and has visited many states. His most memorable trip was a 7-week RV trip to Alaska in 1991 where two of his sons and their wifes and two granddaughters spent their vacation traveling together. Don was a member of the York American Legion Post #19. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and woodworking. Don had a great sense of humor and was very polite and friendly, as he was said to have never met a stranger.

Don is survived by his wife Joyce of Waco; son Darrell of McCook; son Duane (Linda) of Broken Bow; daughter Lori (Dave) Forbes of Grand Island and son Todd and his fiancé Colleen Blackwell of Marcline, MO; grandchildren, Angela (Mike) Kuhlman of Grand Island, Jennifer Fellows of North Platte, Timothy Hinze of Omaha, Steven Speck of Broken Bow, Melissa, Daniel & James Fellows of Broken Bow, Casie Forbes and Broc Forbes both of Grand Island, Ashley Fellows of Columbia, MO and Heather Fellows of Marcline, MO; and sister-in-law Roberta Fellows of Stromsburg; many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in York. Burial was at the Waco Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the family.
