Carl Epp
Carl H. Epp, age 90 of Henderson, NE, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Henderson. He was born February 13, 1919, at Henderson to Heinrich and Elisabeth (Richert) Epp. Carl was a 1936 graduate of Henderson High School. He attended Bethel College in North Newton, KS, for one year and graduated three years later from UNL with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. Carl farmed and raised dairy cattle in the Henderson area with his brother Robert. He was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson where he taught Sunday school for 50 years. He served as a volunteer with the Mennonite Central Committee in six foreign countries. Carl was a former member of the York County Groundwater Association for 12 years, the Henderson School Board for 16 years, and the York County Noxious Weed Board. He was a founding member of the Upper Big Blue NRD as well. Carl and Margaret Ruth Tieszen were united in marriage on May 22, 1948 at Marion, SD.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years Ruth of Henderson; son Mark J. (Catherine Wismer) Epp of Henderson; daughters, Mary (Tyler) Klassen of Goshen, IN, and Carmen (Andrew) Shelly of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren, Hannah Epp of Goshen, IN, Sara Klassen of Goshen, IN, Gregory Shelly and Elizabeth Shelly of North Newton, KS, and Carlin Epp of Henderson, NE. Carl is also survived by his brother Robert O. Epp of Henderson, NE. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Dorothea, and sister-in-law Amelia.
Graveside services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Bethesda Cemetery, Henderson. Memorial services followed at 11:00 a.m., at the Bethesda Mennonite Church.
