Relda Engel

Relda B. Benscoter Engel, age 90, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of York, NE, died Monday, November 15, 2010 in Grand Island. She was born April 9, 1920 in Missouri to Andrew and Ethel (Paul) Kelsay. Relda was married to Samuel Benscoter on June 9, 1940 in Oakland, IA. Samuel passed away on October 28, 1989. On February 21, 1998, Relda and Robert Engel were united in marriage at York. While living in York, she was active in the First United Methodist Church, Women’s Circle, Bible study groups and the Eastern Star. Following her remarriage and move to Grand Island, Relda was active in the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Relda was devoted to her family and enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities and family get-togethers.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bob Engel of Grand Island; children, Larry (Nan) Benscoter of Nebraska City, NE, Ron (Helen) Benscoter of Crystal River, FL, Bryce (Sally) Benscoter of Strafford, MO, Diane Benscoter of Portland, OR, and Julie (Jim) Kohtz of Milford, NE. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren (two more on the way); one brother, Stanley (Gladys) Kelsay of Clinton, IA; one sister, Maxine Dennis of Atlanta, GA; nieces, nephews, and other family. Preceding her in death were her parents, first husband, and four siblings.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Burial followed in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
