Verna Eikenhorst

Verna E. Eikenhorst, age 75, of York, NE, died Friday, February, 11, 2011 at York. She was born October 18, 1935 in the family home near Gresham, NE to Bernhard John and Elsie Mary (Pozehl) Neujahr. She was married to Joseph William Eikenhorst and the union was blessed with five children. Verna devoted her life to her family and her home, but also found time to clean houses for others. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, loved singing in the church choir, enjoyed bowling, dancing, and especially spending time with her family.

Grandchildren: Wendy Elzinc, York, NE, Dustin Kufeldt, Clarks, NE, Nicole Jacox, LaCross, WI, James (Christine) Smith, Mt. Carmel, IL, Adam Smith, Fairfield, IL, Melissa (John) Cline, Burnt Prairie, IL, Moriah Eikenhorst, York, NE, Ben Eikenhorst, York, NE. Step-grandchildren: Clarissa (Nathan) Perry, Shawn Atteberry, Julia Atteberry, Flora, IL, Amber Jurgens, Lincoln, NE, Meagan and John Hayes and their son Chris of Bennett, NE. Great grandchildren: Alexa Swartz, Fairbury, NE, Alex Preslicka, York, NE, Madison and Merada Elzinc, Geneva, NE, MaKayla Cosner, Jerica Smith, Micah Smith of Mt. Carmel, IL, Byron Smith, Fairfield, IL. Step great-grandchild: Ada Perry, Flora, IL Twin sister: Merna (Robert) Ocken, York, NE, sisters: Lavina Reiling, Staplehurst, NE, Dorathy Winkelmann, York, NE, Elvira Boucher, Eugene, OR, Evelyn Brandenburg, Seward, NE. Sister-in-law: Corinne Neujahr, Neenah, WI, Opal Neujahr, Mesa, AZ. Many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter Vickie Kufeldt; great-grandchild Skylar Elzinc; brothers, William, Norman, Delbert, and Leo; an infant brother and sister; sister-in-law Eunice Neujahr; and brothers-in-law, Lemuel Brandenburg, Mervin Winkelmann, and Glenn Reiling.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends Mike Neidow and Tim McCall officiating. Inurment followed in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
