Olga Ehlers

Olga Marie Ehlers of York, NE formerly of Waco, NE passed away peacefully on March 9, 2011 at the age of 100 years 3 months and 25 days. She was born November 13, 1910 south of Carter, South Dakota, in a sod and stone house that is partially standing today, the third of thirteen children of Mike and Mary (Littau) Walters. Olga was baptized January 8, 1911 at Jerusalem Evangelic Lutheran Church south of Carter, South Dakota. Olga was confirmed June 27, 1926 at Jerusalem Evangelic Lutheran Church. Olga was a woman of many talents. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Olga balanced family and church life with her skills as an excellent quilt maker. Olga married Leonard Ehlers on September 22, 1931 at Jerusalem Evangelic Lutheran Church, a union that lasted until Leonard’s death in 1988. The couple had five sons, Leon (2006) Arlan (1987) Willard (2005) LaVerne (1994).

As matriarch of the Ehlers and Walters families, Olga leaves many survivors: her son Ronald and his wife Doris of Burlingame, CA. Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and seventeen great-great-grandchildren. Olga is also survived by brothers Harold and Carl and many nieces and nephews and their children. Also surviving is Olga’s five daughters in laws, Marion, Donna, Gladys, Monica and Darlene.

Private Graveside services were held at the Waco Cemetery to be followed by a memorial service to be held at a later date at Peace Lutheran Church in Waco.

Olga’s message to her family and friends; “You all have brought so much joy and love into my life. Love one another.”
