John Eckles
John W. Eckles age 77 of Benedict, NE. died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Lincoln, NE.
He was born June 23, 1929 at Nelson, NE to William L and Verna (Littrell) Eckles and graduated from Nelson High School. John was the assistant area manager for LT&T for over 35 years in York before retiring to Benedict in 1984.
He was formerly Senior Warden at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in York before joining St Andrews Episcopal Church in Seward. He was a member of the York American Legion Post, V.F.W. and the Noon Sertoma Club. John also enjoyed camping, fishing and most of all traveling with friends and family.
On June 27, 1954 he was married to Elizabeth Lyster at Greeley, Co.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Benedict, two brothers William Jr and his wife Alice Eckles of Lincoln and Phillip Eckles of Nelson, NE. Two sisters Betty Jo Pittam of Mills City, OR and Maxine C. McCutchan of Nelson. Also surviving is a brother in law Norman C. Lyster of Greeley, CO.
Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers in law and a sister in law.
Memorial services were held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at St Andrews Episcopal Church in Seward with the Reverend Helen Goltl officiating. Inurnment was held in the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed towards St Andrews Episcopal Church in Seward or to the American Heart Association. No visitation or viewing as John’s wishes were for his body to be cremated.
