Shirley Dyer

Shirley Ann Dyer age 66 of Henderson, NE died Thursday, January 01, 2009 at Henderson. She was born June 30, 1942 at Henderson to Oliver and Susie (Friesen) Pankratz and was a longtime active member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Shirley was retired from the Henderson Elementary School where she was the librarian for many years. She enjoyed baking, scrap booking and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events and belonged to the Henderson Area Teacher’s Retirement Club and the Retired Teacher’s Association. On August 1, 1965 she was married to James Dyer at Henderson.

She is survived by her husband Jim of Henderson, her son Rick and his wife Blenda Dyer of Cary, N.C., three daughters: Teri and her husband Mike Walker of Kearney, NE, Tammie and her husband Les Maaske of Cozad, NE and Tricia and her husband Brian Sander of Plainville, KS; Ten Grandchildren; Two step Grandchildren; and Four Step Great Grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Bob and his wife Mary Ellen Pankratz of Henderson, two sisters Kathleen and her husband Charles Pravacek of Scotland, S.D. and Susan and her husband Wally Boden of Kearney, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 am Monday, January 5th 2009 at the Bethesda Cemetery at Henderson which was followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 am at the Bethesda Mennonite Church with the Reverend Weldon Martens officiating. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Bethesda Mennonite Church Library.Visitation begins after 1:00 pm Saturday at Metz Mortuary in Henderson with her family greeting friends from 7:00 – 8:30 Sunday evening also at the mortuary.
