Irene Driewer
Irene E. Driewer, age 89, of Bradshaw, NE, died Wednesday, July 09, 2008 at York, NE. Irene was born August 15, 1918 near Polk, NE to Carl A. and Lydia (Blase) Wilshusen. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk, NE on August 25, 1918. She attended Immanuel School and was confirmed March 20, 1932. In 1936 she moved to York to work until her marriage to Alton E. Driewer on April 9, 1939 at Immanuel Church near Polk. Her membership was then transferred to Zion Lutheran Church near Hampton. Irene and Alton lived and farmed in the Hampton and Bradshaw area until 1975 when they built a retirement home in Bradshaw. Their union was blessed with three sons, Willis L, Douglas N. and Kenneth L. Driewer. Alton passed away on November 1, 1993.
Irene was very active in her church, Zion Lutheran Church near Hampton, and was a long time Ladies Aid member In her younger years enjoyed singing in the church choir. Irene loved working in her lawn and garden. She also did lots of quilting and handwork and was very interested in genealogy. Irene made each member of her family a hand pieced and hand quilted quilt for special occasions, especially weddings and children’s birth. She was a member of the Bradshaw and Hampton Senior Citizen groups and enjoyed traveling with the York Senior Fun Club. Her pride and joy was her family and she enjoyed all family gatherings and school activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her three sons, Willis (Barbara) Driewer of York, Douglas (Ginny) Driewer of Bradshaw and Kenneth (Barbara) Driewer also of Bradshaw. Irene is survived by seven grandchildren, Bryan (Patty) Driewer of Bradshaw, Kerri (David) Cavlovic of Elkorn, NE, Chad (Lisa) Driewer of Jackson, WY, Kelly (Marissa) Driewer of York, Julie (Casey) Macken of Grand Island, NE, Brent Driewer of York, and Chelsey Driewer of Lincoln. Great-grand children include Miranda, Deitrich and Benjaman Driewer of Bradshaw, Colton, Henry, Johney and Clint Cavlovic of Elkorn, NE, Melanie and Morgan Driewer of York, and Olivia and Liliana Macken of Grand Island. Also surviving is one sister, Dolores Sagehorn of Polk and several nieces, nephews and a host of neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister Florence, two brothers Elmer Wilshusen and infant brother Clarence and a sister-in-law Erma Driewer.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hampton, NE with the Reverend Loren Cooper officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery beside her husband Alton. Memorials may be directed to the church.
