William Dickey

William Oliver “Bill” Dickey, age 95 of Bradshaw, NE, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Grand Island, NE with his wife, son, and daughter at his side. He was born December 20, 1914 on a farm five miles south of Utica, NE to Benjamin and Agnes (Peterson) Dickey. On July 13, 1943 he married Laura Christian. Bill served 3 ½ years in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He spent 1 ½ years over seas. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. Bill and Laura were longtime members of the FCRV Camping Club. During his lifetime, Bill farmed, was a carpenter, and worked as a custodian/school bus driver. In recognition of his service to our country, Dr. Kent Mann of Grand Island Senior High School presented Bill with his high school diploma last April at a ceremony in the VA Home in Grand Island.

He leaves behind his wife, of 67 years, Laura of Bradshaw; son Wesley (Jackie) Dickey of Hastings, NE; daughter Janet (Doyle) Naber of Waco, NE; sister Mildred Brown of York; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Judy Monnier; grandson, Chad Monnier; brothers, Harold Dickey and wife Leona, Henry Dickey and wife Bernice; sisters, Mae and husband Orville Landenberger, Florence and husband Ray Genz; and brother-in-law Neil Brown.

Funeral services were Monday, August 16, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Bradshaw, NE. Burial was at the Utica Cemetery, Utica, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
