Hugh G. DeWitt Jr.

Hugh G. DeWitt Jr. (Pooch), 72, of Independence, Mo., died Saturday, September 18, 2004 in Aurora, Nebraska. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, I-435 at Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Hugh was born to Hugh and Dorothy (Bingham) DeWitt on March 11, 1932, in Kansas City, MO. He married Dolores Roberts in 1952 and moved to Independence, MO. Hugh attended Northeast High School and joined his father, grandfather, and uncle working in the family business, Central Mirror and Glass. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War as an Artillery Specialist with the 555 Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned home to become part owner of Central Mirror and Glass. He later owned and ran Central Mirror and Glass for 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of many veteran groups including the American Legion Post 499 Stan-ley Pack in Blue Springs, 40 and 8 VFW Korean War, Veterans and DAV. He held many offices including secretary/treasurer, Commander, Vice Commander etc.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores DeWitt, his parents and uncle. Survivors include son, Paul and wife Donna DeWitt of York, Nebraska; granddaughters, Katrina DeWitt and Kristina Bryant of York, Nebraska; one sister and nieces and nephews.
