Dr. David F. Demuth

Dr. David F. Demuth age 57 of York died Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Lincoln, NE. He was born October 26, 1949 at David City, NE to George W. and Martha (Zitek) Demuth. He attended Dwight Assumption Grade School and graduated from Seward High School in Seward, NE in 1968. He received his undergraduate degree from Kearney State College and graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in 1975. He was united in marriage to Deborah Ann Suck on September 1, 1973 in Dwight, NE.

Dr. Demuth then completed his Family Practice medicine residency at McLennan County Family Practice Research Foundation in Waco, Texas, where he was chief resident during his last year and was honored with the Outstanding Teacher of Family Medicine. He and his wife then moved to Camp Pendleton, CA where he started his active duty for the United States Navy. In September of 1980, Dr. Demuth and Deb planted their roots in York.

Dr. Demuth established his commitment to family medicine almost 30 years ago. In 1980, he dedicated his life's work to providing quality health care to members of the York community, at the York Medical Clinic. In addition to his clinic and managerial expertise, Dr. Demuth's community involvement extended from the neighborhoods of York throughout the state of Nebraska. He always had a strong interest in local sports and acted as a team doctor for the York High School Athletic Department, as well as, many York area schools. Dr. Demuth served as a volunteer member of the York County Drug Task Force and the Habitat for Humanity. He also raised registered Scottish Highlander cattle and served on the American Scottish Highland Cattle Association Board of Directors. He received many awards and accolades over the years, including the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians' Family Physician of the Year in 2006. On October 3, 2007, in Chicago, Dr. Demuth was honored as being named the 2008 National Family Physician of the Year, for the entire nation, by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

Dr. Demuth enjoyed attending his boy’s Figure 8 races and derby’s, his daughter’s soccer games, and watching the University of Nebraska athletic teams compete. He attended the National Western Stock Show in Denver for the past 20 years. His first cattle purchase in May of 1987, he returned home to bring Deb more livestock than was expected, as her Mother’s Day gift. He enjoyed fishing and also nourished and took pleasure in planting gardens, fitting as it is, as he did the same for York and the surrounding communities. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Deb of York; sons: Cameron Demuth and his fiancé Jamie Arbuck and their daughter Raegan of York; Collin Demuth and his wife Natalie of York; Creighton Demuth of York; daughter Caitlin Demuth of Hastings, NE; mother, Martha Demuth of Seward but presently residing at the Hearthstone in York; brother, Michael Demuth and his wife Barbara of Seward; sisters, Connie and her husband David Wimmer of West Point, NE, Paula and her husband Donald Volker of York and their son Dayton, Pamela and her husband Lonn Hutcheson of Lewisville, TX; sister-in-law Darby and her husband William Greenway of St. Paul, NE. Also surviving is Dr. Demuth’s longtime nurse Terri and her husband Rod Matthies of York; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends and colleagues. Preceding him in death is his father, parents-in-law Milton and G. Darlene Suck and brother-in-law Marshall S. Collins.

A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the York High School auditorium at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Mark Tasler and Rev. Art Phillips officiating. A rosary was said on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York with Fr. Mark Tasler officiating, followed by burial in the Greenwood Cemetery at York with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Dr. David F.
