Elta Davis

Elta M. Davis, age 97, of York, died Friday, February, 11, 2011 at York. She was born June 10, 1913 near Waco, NE to Heinrich and Frieda (Reisner) Epke. She was married to Glenn M. Davis on February 20, 1932 at York. Elta worked as a cook at Willard School for a few years and was a sales clerk at JC Penneys in York for 20 years. She also volunteered as a seamstress at the Hearthstone for many years.

Elta was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, LWML, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Senior Fun Club, and the York Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former member of the York Garden Club, several Bridge clubs, enjoyed playing Scrabble, card games and quilting.

Survivors include two sons, James Davis and his wife Lynn of Lincoln, NE and Thomas Davis and special friend Deb Hienricks of Lincoln; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister Dama Lind of York; sister-in-law Ardis Epke of Lincoln; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Joan Fillman; granddaughter Jenny Davis; three brothers, Wilbur,Walter and Ralph Epke ; four sisters, Alma Epke, Anna Ranes, Norena Rich, and Paula Behmer; four brothers-in-law, Julian Lind, Al Behmer, Louis Rich, and Melvin Ranes; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Epke, and Doris Epke.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends Mike Neidow and Tim McCall officiating. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or the family for later designation.
