Dr Roger L. Collins age 57 of York, NE passed away on October 25, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, MO. Roger was born May 21, 1953 to Ralph S. and Norma June Collins in Omaha, NE. Roger grew up in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School in 1971. Roger received his A.A. from York College in 1973. From there he attended Harding University where he received his B.S. in business in 1975. He later went on to the University of Nebraska – Omaha and received his MBA in 1985. In 2006 Roger received his PH.D in Higher Education Administration from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. In June 2010 he received his CPA certificate.

Roger had 29 years of service at York College. In 1981 he taught business courses and coached the men’s Soccer team. In 1987 he became the business manager for eight years before returning to the classroom in 1995. After returning to the classroom he served as Chair of the Business Department and coached the boys and girls cross country and track teams.

Roger meet the love of his life, Debbie Cosby while attending York College. They were married on August 17, 1975 and for 35 years they were devoted to each other and were an example to many. Together they raised four children. Roger was a loving and proud father who made sacrifices in order to provide opportunities for his children.

Roger enjoyed running, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He has been an active member of East Hill Church of Christ where he served as an elder. He also spent time working for York Public Schools, was on the Board of Larsen Christian Academy and volunteered as the Chairman for the Relay for Life. Roger dedicated his life to his family, the church and the college.

He is survived by his wife Debbie of York; three daughters: Stacy and her husband Scott McCall, Laura and her husband Craig Williamson and Kristy and her husband Alex Awtry all of Edmond, OK; a son Jeremy and his wife Hannah of St. Peters, MO; and his mother Norma Collins of York. Also surviving is his sister Birgie and her husband Scott Niemann of Glenwood Springs, CO; his mother-in-law Barbara Cosby of Willard, MO; sister-in-law Beverly and her husband David Larimore of Atlanta, GA; ten grandchildren, three nephews and a niece and many other great nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph S. Collins and father-in-law Robert Cosby.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Monday, November 1, 2010 at the East Hill Church of Christ in York. Burial was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Cross Country and Track Program at York College.
