Boyd Carey
Boyd E. Carey, age 94 of Stromsburg, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Lincoln. He was born on June 17, 1912 to Fred and Lillie (Post) Carey at Page, NE. On October 10, 1936, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Margaret Luedke in Yankton, SD.
Boyd was a mechanic and car salesman for over 30 years, always working in Ford dealerships. He was part owner of Brockmeyer Ford in Seward, NE for 7 years and in 1976 moved back to York where he sold cars for the local Ford dealer. In 1973, he was recognized in Time magazine for top 5 percent in sales in the United States then they moved back to York where he continued selling cars. Boyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York, United Methodist Men, and noon Sertoma Club. He was a loving husband and father and in his free time enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also a championship pool player.
Left to cherish Boyd’s memory is his wife Evelyn of Stromsburg; son LeRoy (Beverly) Carey of Bennington, NE; daughter Karen Kay (David) Peters of York; daughter Linda Lee (Kevin) Dice of Klemmie, IA; 11 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters: Myrtle Young of O’Neill, NE; Leola Stone of St. Paul, NE; brother-in-law Marcelous (Lucille) Luedke of Wisner, NE; sister-in-law Sue Luedke of Lincoln, NE and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, great-granddaughter Samantha Brouillette, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services were held November 4, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in York. .
