Rose Brown

Rose L. Brown, age 87 of York NE, died Monday, December 17, 2007 at Lincoln, NE. She was born on April 28, 1920 north of Beaver Crossing, NE to John G. and Elise (Kurzen) Wurst. Rose grew up in Seward and York Counties and was a McCool Junction High School graduate. She also attended Kearney State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to Augustus “Melvin” Brown on July 5, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA. To this union three sons were born: Augustus, Jr., Carl, and William. Rose was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York and also taught Sunday School for many years. She was a proud member of the Just-a-Wee Club, enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting. Rose taught school for several years but devoted most of her life to helping her husband on the family farm and raising her sons. She was a proud mother, doting wife, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her caring personality and big heart. She enjoyed having the family gather on the farm for holidays, fish fries, and simply for the sake of being together. Nobody left her house without a hug goodbye.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Gus (Colene) Brown of York, Carl (Marie) Brown of Polk, and Bill Brown of rural York. Also surviving are her siblings, Ruby Sheldon of Sargent, Lois Nicholson of Lincoln, Gordon (Lillian) Wurst of York, Dick (Dian) Wurst of Stromsburg, and Marie Carlson of Polk. Her surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren are: Carlene (Todd) VanHousen and their children Kaylee, Austin and Ashley of Polk; Sarah (Terry) Carlstrom and their children Riley and Trevor of Polk; Troy (Julie) Brown and their children Dustin Matlock and Chandler Brown of North Platte, Travis (Dorinda) Brown of Polk and Tricia (Jason) Regier and their children Hayden and Jarrett of Lincoln. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers; Clarence, Herman, Frank, and Willy Wurst, and sister Eunice Rahorst.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverends Art Phillips and Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial followed at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in York.
