Verla Branting

Verla Marie Branting, age 86 of York, NE died Friday, February 4, 2011 in Lincoln, NE. She was born April 5, 1924 to James Sorenson and Goldie Raye (Gnauden) Williamsen at Hampton, NE. On January 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to Mervin John Branting in York.

Verla focused her life on her family and taking care of them. She loved to cook and bake, and was especially known for her homemade noodles. She also enjoyed gardening and nurturing flowers. Verla invested in others with her many acts of kindness, but her primary passion was her family.

Left to cherish her memory are four children: Gary (Zola) Branting of Elm Creek, NE, John Branting of Brule, NE, Donna (Gary) Stubbendeck of Lincoln, and Peggy (Doug) Wilbeck of Minden, NE; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1993, son Richard, and three brothers: Clifford, Walter, and Elroy.

Memorial services were held Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Pat Norris officiating. Inurnment followed at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Cremation.
