Bessie Brahmsteadt

Bessie L. Brahmsteadt, age 87 of York, died Friday, January 14, 2011 at Aurora, NE. She was born April 14, 1923 to Raymond P. and Helen (Moore) Grigsby at Aurora. Bessie attended country school at Aurora and was a lifelong homemaker. She enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her family.

Bessie was united in marriage to Herbert Ackerman on August 12, 1944 in Mankato, KS. To this marriage seven children were born six survive her: Virgil (Elaine) Ackerman of Benedict, NE, Jerome Ackerman of York, Earl (Jeannie) Ackerman of Guttenberg, IA, Herbert (Megon) Ackerman of Thayer, NE, Helen (Neville) Barnard of Vinton, IA, Mary Wolfe of Hiawatha, IA.

After Herbert passed away, she was united in marriage to Clarence F. Brahmsteadt on December 31, 1964 in York, and two children were born. She is survived by two children of this marriage: Clarence Brahmsteadt Jr. of Waco, NE, and Frances (Stewart) Cunningham of Sioux City, IA.

Also surviving is daughter-in-law Jaunita Ackerman of Stromsburg, 24 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; brother Bill Grigsby of Aurora, sister Betty (Marvel) Lands of Aurora, and sister-in-law Gladys Grigsby of Aurora. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, four brothers, two sisters, and son Lonnie.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Metz Chapel. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery, York. Memorials may be directed to the family.
