Margaret Boyle

Margaret Kathleen Boyle age 87 of York, NE passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at her home. Kathleen was born May 25, 1921 on a farm southwest of Bradshaw, NE to Roy S. and Lehla (Whitfield) Barnes. She grew up in the Bradshaw area and graduated from Bradshaw High School. On May 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Leroy Boyle at Clay Center, NE. To this union three children were born, James Roy, Margaret (Peggy) Louise, and John Dale. Kathleen was a loving wife and devoted mother. She loved the farm and was Kenneth’s “right hand man.” They lived on several farms. Two of them were north of Bradshaw, then they moved to a farm west of York. Then they moved east of McCool Jct and then two and a half miles east of York in 1967.

Kate enjoyed sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She always had the quilting forms set up in the basement and had quilts or blankets made for each grandchild and great grandchild. At McCool Jct, Kate was a member of the Cheery-lot Ladies Club and was involved in 4-H clubs. After moving to York she was a ‘taxi’ driver for many school activities, especially FFA and VoAg. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York. She gladly baked cookies or provided food for the church functions.

She is survived include her children James R Boyle and his wife Jan VanBuren of West Lafayette, Indiana, Peggy Otte and her husband Jerry of Grafton, NE and John D. Boyle and his wife Penny of York. Her grandchildren include Troy Otte and his wife Candy of York, Sheri Alt and her husband Ryan of York, Heather Beran and her husband John of Lincoln, NE. Cristina Tiedtke and her husband Jason of Omaha, Don Boyle of Loveland, CO. Great grandchildren include Jonah and Simon Otte of York, Ashley Wolff and Connor Tiedtke of Omaha, NE. Alyssa and Zach Alt of York. Also surviving is her sister Martha McGaffin of York and a sister in law Velma Barnes also of York. Many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents, Roy and Lehla Barnes; Parents in law James A. and Bessie Boyle, grandson Lance Boyle. Her brothers, brothers in law and sisters in law.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial followed in York's Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to the Lance J. Boyle Scholarship Foundation in care of the York Community Foundation.
