Laura Boehr

Laura (Friesen) Boehr was born on November 5, 1921, the ninth child of Peter D. and Katharina Friesen on a farm in Hamilton County, Nebraska. She passed away on August 19, 2010 at the age of 88 years, 9 months, 14 days. Upon her profession of faith in Jesus Christ, Laura was baptized by Uncle Rev. A.W. Friesen and accepted in the fellowship of Bethesda Mennonite Church on May 12, 1940 where she remained a faithful member. Laura completed the eighth grade at Farmers Valley School and then went to Henderson High School for four years, graduating in 1939. She worked for various families doing housework and child care.

Laura married Donald Boehr on April 20, 1941 and they celebrated 68 years together. To this union were born six children, Stanley, Vivian, Stuart, Laura Jane, Doris and Brenda. Donald and Laura farmed and moved to Henderson in 1978. Laura worked at the nursing home for a few years. Laura enjoyed mission societies, teaching Sunday School, and spending time at the Senior Center. She loved to embroider, crochet and piece quilt tops and quilt. She also enjoyed babysitting for the grandchildren. Family gatherings were special with verenika as a special treat. Laura appreciated the Bible study group she and Don were a part of, and she truly believed in prayer. Don and Laura traveled to see their children and also to the Holy Land, Europe, Hawaii and many states.

Laura is survived by her six children and their families: Son Stan Boehr and wife Karren (Friesen), Henderson NE; daughter Vivian (Boehr) Pereboom and husband Bill, Littleton, CO; son Stuart Boehr, Grand Rapids, MN; daughter Laura Jane (Boehr) Steingard and husband Dale, Henderson, NE; daughter Doris (Boehr) Miller and husband Dr. Ken, Bellfontaine, OH; daughter Dr. Brenda (Boehr) Srof and husband Jody, Goshen, IN. Granddaughter Gretchen (Boehr) and Keith Bergen, Granby, CO and great grandchildren Jayden and Henry; grandson Greg and Dana (Buller) Boehr, York NE and great grandchildren Connor, Nolan and Allie; granddaughter Mindy Boehr, Indianapolis, IN. Granddaughter Lisa (Pereboom) and Habib Nasrullah, Louisville, CO and great grandchildren Nick and Sophie; grandson Todd and Erin Pereboom, Littleton, CO. Grandson Mischa & Brooke Boehr, Portland, OR; grandson Olaf & Christy Boehr, Minneapolis, MN. Granddaughter Greta (Steingard) and Jeff Rottler, Wichita, KS; granddaughter Dana Steingard, Grand Island, NE; grandson Coby Steingard, Henderson, NE. Granddaughter Christy and Kyle Miller Hesed, College Park, MD; granddaughter Michelle Miller, Bellefontaine, OH ; granddaughter Kelly Miller, Bellfontaine, OH. Granddaughters Anna and Leah Srof, Goshen, IN. Laura is also survived by: Sister Leona Epp, Henderson; brother-in-law Harland Epp, Henderson. In-laws Kay Boehr, Blair, NE; Jean Boehr, PA; Sarah Regier, Newton, KS; Rachel Hiebner, Henderson, NE Preceding Laura in death were her husband, Donald, parents Peter D. and Katharina Friesen, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

Committal services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Bethesda Cemetery, Henderson, NE, followed by memorial services at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite Church. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Mennonite Church-local church fund or the Henderson Care Center.
