Mary Lu Bills
MaryLu Bills, age 80 of York, NE, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at York. She was born at home on the family farm at rural Bradshaw, NE on June 23, 1927 to Chris J. and Eunice (Myers) Weber. She attended District #15 School through 8th grade, then attended York High School and graduated in 1944. She attended York College and took classes from the University of Nebraska. She taught in rural schools in York County for eight years. MaryLu married Leland D. Bills on September 24, 1952 at the Harmony EUB Church north of Bradshaw, NE. The union was blessed with two children, Lynn and Lana. Following their birth, she remained at home and was a fulltime mother and homemaker, and worked with Leland on the family farm.
After retiring from the farm in December, 1989, they moved to York. MaryLu had been a volunteer for the Senior Fun Club and Epworth Village for many years, was a member of the United Methodist Church for over fifty years and a member of the York Friendship Club. She also served on the Aging Services Board and was a Red Cross volunteer. MaryLu had no greater love than that for her family. Being with her family was No. 1.
MaryLu is survived by her husband Leland of York, son Lynn Bills and his wife Debbie of Lincoln, NE, daughter Lana and her husband Brian Hergenrader of Prairie Village, KS, grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Jereme Jones of York, David Bills of Lincoln, Kyle Hergenrader of Prairie Village, KS, and her favorite great-grandson Noah Jones of York. She is also survived by her sisters, JoAnn Harry and Darlene Watt of York, brother Rex Weber and his wife Ellen of McCool Jct., NE, sister Natalie Weber of Castle Rock, CO, sister-in-law Beverly Bills of Polk, NE, and brother-in-law LeRoy Bills of Midwest City, OK. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or the York Adopt-A-Pet Animal Shelter.
