Bruce Bernt

Bruce Alan Bernt, age 55 of Gahanna, OH, formerly Lincoln, NE died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Gahanna. Bruce was born August 28, 1953 to Harold G. and Ruth M. (Husmann) Bernt at Columbus, NE. Bruce served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp as an Air Traffic Controller. On July 15, 1977, Bruce was united in marriage to Christine McCall at St.Joseph's Church of York. He then attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he received his Master’s Degree in Business Finance. Later, he held a position with the government, working as an accountant for the Department of Defense. Bruce enjoyed fishing, hunting and the time he was able to spend with his twin sons.

Surviving Bruce is his wife Christine and their sons Shane Alan Bernt and Cody Christopher Bernt all of Lincoln, NE; brother Dave (Fran) Bernt of Garland, NE; brother Richard Bernt of Lincoln; sister Sue (Mike) McLain of Beatrice; nephews and nieces include: Fred (Michelle) Bernt and family of Lincoln, Melissa McLain of Lincoln, Christy (Chad) White of Arizona, and Trevor McLain of Lincoln; uncle Rich (Eva) Bernt of Columbus, NE; aunt Rose (Jesse) Ussery of Texas; uncle Harold (Dorlene) Husmann of Columbus; and aunt Carolyn Bernt of North Bend, NE. Also surviving are brothers and sisters –in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 31 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York with Fr. Joseph Bernardo officiating. A Rosary was said prior to the Mass at 10:00 a.m. Military inurnment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Bruce has been cremated, so there will be no viewing or visitation. Condolences may be left for the family at www.metzmortuary.com. Metz Mortuary, York is handling arrangements.
