Martin Barrett

Martin A. Barrett, age 96, of York, NE, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at York. He was born January 13, 1914 at Omaha, NE to Charles and May (Winter) Barrett. Martin graduated from high school in St. Paul, NE. He was united in marriage to H. Marie Winterhalter on July 8, 1939 in Belleville, KS.

Martin was a welder/machinist and owned and operated Barrett Brothers Welding and Machine Shop in York until his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church in York, the Blacksmith Association, and numerous other blacksmith organizations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, good food and spending time with his family.

Martin leaves behind to cherish his memory two sons, Dan (Evie) Barrett of York and Roy (Judy) Barrett of Lincoln. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tyler (Tammy) Barrett and their children Sierra, Natasha, and Matthew of Bradshaw, NE and Cari (Todd) Berner and their children Quin and Easton of Aberdeen, SD; two step-grandchildren, Stacey Fuehrer and her children Troy and Grant of Lincoln, NE, and Shawnei (Ron) Branek and their children Hailey and Nathan of Norton, KS. Martin also leaves behind two brothers, Elmer (Doris) Barrett of Tilden, NE, Bob (Betty) Barrett of Melbourne, GA; one sister Betty Muir of Atlanta, GA; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; grandson Jason; brothers Ed and Elburn; sisters, Bonnie Habecker, Vera Tracy and Thelma Fleming.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the First Christian Church in York with Pastor Mike Neidow officiating. Private family inurnment at Plainfield Cemetery, Bradshaw, NE. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church.
