Norma Barney
Norma Esther Barney age 89 of York, NE, formerly of Bradshaw, NE, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 20, 2007 at York. She was born December 21, in rural Fairmont, NE, to William Edgar and Eva Louisa (Wullbrandt) Dingman. On September 3, 1940 she was united in marriage to Allen W. Barney at Friend, NE. At that time they moved to Iowa, where Allen had a job as a farm hand. In 1947 they moved back to Nebraska, where they farmed in the Exeter and Friend area until 1957 when they moved to a farm near Bradshaw. Norma was a devoted farm wife, and worked in the fields alongside Allen for many years. In 1979 they retired and moved into Bradshaw. In retirement they especially enjoyed their yard, garden and flowers. They also enjoyed their neighbors and attending local sports activities. They were active in the Methodist Church where Norma enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School for many years.
Leaving to mourn her loss are her husband of nearly 67 years, Allen of York, children Ann (Clinton) Philson of McCool Jct., NE, Carol (Dallas) Fenster of Holdrege, NE, Norman (Carol) Barney of Olathe, KS and Bob (Joyce) Barney of Council Bluffs, IA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law Jean Talley of Friend and Lois (Don) Mathes of Lincoln. Preceding her in death are her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services were Monday, July 23, 2007 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Richard Karohl officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the York General Hearthstone, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
