Merna Bailey

Merna M. Bailey, age 91 of York, former longtime McCool Junction resident, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at York. Merna was born March 14, 1914 to Earl and Mamie (Schenck) Meradith at York. She was raised on the family farm east of York and attended District 86 and graduated from York High School in 1932. She was married to Rex G. Bailey at York on June 10, 1937. Merna was a member of the United Methodist Church in McCool and the United Methodist Women. She had been active in her church, holding many offices and teaching Sunday & Bible School. Merna had been a 4H leader and committee member and belonged to the Cheery Lott and Up’N’Adam extension clubs. Survivors include her three children; Roger and his wife Lenda of McCool Jct, Carol Harter and her husband Donald of Elkhorn and Sherry Clark of York; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Maxine (Marvin) Stahr of York and Jean Rouch of Beaver Lake, NE. Preceding her in death were husband Rex, her parents, great-grandson Justin and 2 brothers Jay & Max Meradith.

Funeral services were Friday, March 3, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Revs. Jeff Adams and Art Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the McCool United Methodist Church or the UMW Missions.
