Russell Arbuck

Russell W. Arbuck, age 87, of McCool Jct., NE, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at Exeter, NE. He was born October 28, 1922 in Fillmore County, NE to Henry and Mary (Lutz) Arbuck. He served in the Army from February of 1943 until October of 1945. Russell was a member of the 612th Light Equipment Company which was the first unit to land on Utah Beach during WWII. Russell and Greta Mae Klone were united in marriage on March 29, 1942 in Fillmore County. He worked for a number of years for the York County Department of Roads and also farmed. Prior to retirement, he worked for the Nebraska State Department of Roads for 18 Years. Russell loved being outdoors, viewing the wildlife, camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, and working on puzzles. He cherished his family and always looked forward to their visits.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Greta, of McCool Jct., NE; daughter Patsy Bailey of McCool Jct., NE; grandchildren, Shawn (Holly) Bailey of Henderson, NE and Shane Bailey of Lincoln, NE. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Allison Lackey of Henderson, NE and her husband Jerry who is currently serving in Afghanistan, Ashley Bailey and Kyle Bailey both of Henderson; many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers, two sisters, and son-in-law Tom Bailey.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Metz Chapel in York, NE, with the Reverend Pat Norris officiating. Burial was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
