Leona Apetz

Leona B. Apetz age 80 of York, NE died Saturday, October 20, 2007 at York from a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born May 17, 1927 in Walton, NE to Julius and Hattie (Royer) Zech. Leona married Delbert Apetz at Belleville, KS on January 26, 1946. She worked at 1st National Bank in York for over 30 years and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York as well.

She is survived by two sons, David Apetz of Gretna, NE and Jerry and his wife Dixie Apetz of York. Grandchildren include Cheri and her husband Jeff Rychly of Omaha, Wendy Apetz of Dallas, TX Amy and her husband Earl Wright of Omaha and Adam Apetz of Medford, Oregon. Great grandchildren include Paige and Derik Wright of Omaha. Also surviving are her two sisters, Frankie Barnett of Enid Oklahoma, Opal Roth of Visalia, CA, two brothers and sisters in laws, Alvin and his wife Luella Apetz and Lee and his wife Wanda Apetz all of York, Mildred Threatt of Texas and Darleen Senff of York. Nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Leona loved life and family, always there to give support to those that needed it, she loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing games with them. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, husband Delbert, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Tim Marshall officiating with burial in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s research or to the donor’s favorite charity.
